Development Events Summer Intern

Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) is hiring a Development Events Summer Intern/Worker to work approximately 20-30 hours/week (mid-May through September 2024) as part of our fast paced, highly successful fundraising team in Woods Hole, MA. The Events Team supports the day-to-day operations of WHOI Development and Advancement to ensure creative and engaging opportunities for our supporters. This is a temporary, casual, in-person position.

Essential Functions

  • Assisting the events team with a high number of events, ranging from intimate to large scale engagement opportunities
  • Accompanying events team to both internal and external events
  • Supporting the events team with logistical and administrative duties
  • Assist in maintaining events records in Development database
  • Assisting with creative decisions
  • Attending events team planning meetings
  • Interacting with Development colleagues on event details
  • Ad-hoc duties at events including, but not limited to, guest list management, checking in guests, delivering events materials to site etc.
  • Helping set up and dismantle events efficiently through to completion
  • Ensuring all branded events related materials arrive on time

Education & Experience

  • Attention to detail and record keeping
  • In-person position
  • Interest in nonprofit fundraising, event planning and/or ocean science research
  • Flexible schedule (able to work some evenings and weekends)
  • Professional and comfortable interacting with donors, community members and venue partners
  • Team player
  • Confident with all Microsoft Office packages and willing to learn events software
  • Creative and used to thinking outside the box
  • Passion for ocean science and related events
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Personable and presentable
  • Eager to contribute new ideas

Non-Essential Functions

Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

Physical duties for this position include but are not limited to, ability to lift less than 25 lbs independently and carry 0-10 lbs independently. Other physical tasks are mostly sedentary; use of hands for basic/fine grasping and manipulation, and repetitive motion. Other occupational requirements include talking, working around others, with others, and independently. Physical duties are subject to change.
