Communications and Social Media Intern - Mayor's Summer Internship Program

Title: Communications, Social Media, & Video Intern

 Location: The City of Framingham's Executive Office of the Mayor

Preference: Bilingual in Spanish or Portuguese

Position Purpose: Performs communications, social media, and video tasks under the direction of the Public Information Officer. Works with the PIO on strategic communication initiatives for the City in the Mayor’s Office. Performs all other related work as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Under the direction of the Public Information Officer, the intern will work on communications channels for the City of Framingham.

  • Develops social media posts that align with the City of Framingham’s brand
  • Write social media content for multiple platforms including Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, Threads, WhatsApp, TikTok, or other social media platforms 
  • Develops videos for the City’s newsletter and social media platforms in multiple languages. 
  • Collaborates with the PIO to maintain a consistent brand voice and identity for each social media channel 
  • Collaborates with multiple City departments, under the direction of the PIO, to identify social media content for all of the City’s channels 
  • Fosters meaningful communication with the City’s audience on multiple communication channels to increase followers and engagement on all social media platforms. 
  • Works with the PIO to develop brand & marketing materials for the City of Framingham and any of its departments 
  • Works with PIO to produce videos for the City of Framingham’s communication channels 
  • Performs similar or related work as required, directed, or as the situation dictates.

RECOMMENDED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, TRAINING, & EXPERIENCE:

  • Current student in good standing or 2023 graduate 
  • Must possess a valid Class D driver’s license or have access to reliable transportation 
  • Preference given to bilingual candidates in Spanish or Portuguese

SKILLS:

  • Understanding of media and public relations skills 
  • Experience with social media 
  • Experience with camera equipment preferred 
  • Experience with video production and editing 
  • Graphic design skills. Experience with Canva a plus 
  • Expert in English, including grammar and spelling 
  • Research skills  Experience with multi-media presentation techniques 
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines 
  • Ability to work independently 
  • Strong written communication skills 
  • Strong oral communication skills 
  • Multi task short- and long-term projects to meet deadlines 
  • Strong interpersonal skills

JOB ENVIRONMENT:  

  • Work may be performed in office and throughout the City 
  • Work may be performed during daytime and or night time hours 
  • Work may be required on weekends and or holidays 
  • Intern may have access to some confidential information and needs to keep that information within the office only. 
  • Intern may get access to information before made public and must keep information confidential within the office only until released 
  • Errors in judgment could result in loss of service and or adverse public relations
