Research Scientist III (JR-0000639)

Responsibilities

The Research Scientist III will lead the coordination, development and implementation of the epidemiology, surveillance, and evaluation activities related to opioid prescription, prevention of misuse and abuse, overdose response, and treatment of opioid use disorders for the HEALing Communities Study. Specific duties will include: developing algorithms for various opioid-related measures, coordinating different datasets, building programs for generating results and validating measures; developing analytic methods that compare and assess progress across implementation sites in New York State; collaborating with other NYSDOH partners (e.g., Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services, Office of Quality and Patient Safety, Bureau of Vital Records and the AIDS Institute) and the Columbia University research team to prioritize and conduct analytical projects necessary to address data needs of public health responses; providing guidance and technical assistance to staff; and developing written reports, peer-reviewed publications, and presentations. Other appropriate related duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s in public health, epidemiology, statistics/biostatistics or a related field and four years of research experience; OR a Master’s degree in a related field and three years of research experience; or a Doctorate in a related field and one year of research experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Public Health or a related field and two years of experience in public health research, surveillance or evaluation. Proficiency in data analysis, database and statistical software, interpretation and dissemination of data for varied audiences, and provision of surveillance and evaluation technical assistance. Experience with analyzing large public health data. Intermediate or advanced proficiency using SAS including proficient use of SAS BASE, SQL, GRAPH, STAT, ODS, MACRO. Experience supervising staff.

 

Conditions of Employment

Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.

This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting will be available.
