Energy Management Intern
Purpose and Scope
The MBTA’s Environmental Department seeks the assistance of an Energy Management Intern whose studies focus on mechanical engineering, civil engineering, environmental science, and/or related field. The selected candidate will also work with MBTA’s Manager of Energy Programs to identify energy conservation and efficiency opportunities at MBTA maintenance facilities, administrative buildings and transit stations.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Assist with identification and cataloguing of energy intense process equipment, power, electrical, lighting, HVAC, and water systems.
Assist with utility incentive program applications, including savings calculations estimates.
Research new energy efficiency opportunities and develop framework with MBTA staff and utilities for incentive program.
Work with MBTA staff to track and identify MBTA projects and facilities with possible energy conservation measures.
Attend occasional site visits to MBTA facilities in the Boston area following all health and safety protocols.
Attend virtual, phone, and in person meetings, create presentations, and work on other projects as needed.
Ability to work independently with regular check-ins (either virtual or in-person).
Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned.
Minimum Education
A high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) from an accredited institution.
Actively enrolled in a bachelor’s or graduate degree program at an accredited institution.
Minimum Experience and Required Skills
Proficiency with MS Office, including MS Excel.
Strong organizational, analytical, quantitative, multi-tasking, attention to detail, and time management skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment, with multiple competing priorities/projects.
