About the Role

The Huntington is seeking an individual who is interested in committing to a 14-week internship program in the Rose Collection - a 3-acre garden with over 1300 cultivars and 2500 plants. The intern reports to the Associate Director, Botanical Collections, Conservation and Research and will be under the mentorship of  the Curator and Assistant to the Curator of the Rose Collection. The intern will be involved in the work supporting staff in curating the Rose Collection.

S/he/they will demonstrate a background of working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, geographic and socioeconomic backgrounds, using a welcoming, inclusive, and accessible approach.

The expected start date will be in mid-April. The intern will work for 6 hours a day, 5 days a week, from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM.

 

Essential Duties

  • Documenting the living rose collection through photography
  • Uploading pictures and other digital data into RAIL (institutional archive system)
  • May perform other related duties as assigned

 

Candidate Requirements and Experience

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Must be detail oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Must be in good physical condition in order to stoop, bend, walk long distances and carry equipment.
  • Must be competent in the proper use of photographic and digital equipment as required.
  • Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Photography experience required.
  • Must be proficient in digital management.
  • A Degree in Horticulture required or taking college level horticulture classes toward a Degree in Horticulture.
