Astronomer

About Teton Skies:
Teton Skies is the Intermountain West’s premier provider of science-based experiential programming, with a special focus on astronomy. We work with high-end resorts, event planners, and private clients throughout the region, providing custom stargazing and astrophotography programs for audiences of all ages and backgrounds. Our goal with every program is to create an unforgettable experience, one that enriches, engages, educates, and entertains. Unique amenities such as catered refreshments and state-of-the-art optics help provide an exceptional guest experience, but what really makes Teton Skies stand out is our team of professional scientists and educators, whose skill and knowledge enable every guest to reconnect with the wonders of the natural world.

The Position:
The Astronomer reports directly to Teton Skies’ owner and is responsible for executing world-class stargazing programs with the company’s clients. Most programs take place within Grand Teton National Park, or at select resorts in Jackson Hole. Astronomers are responsible for transporting guests to and from our dark sky locations and providing 1.5 to 3 hours of hands-on programming using our large-diameter computerized telescopes, interactive software, and other teaching aids. Along with our dedicated support crew, the Astronomer is also responsible for the set-up and clean-up of the stargazing sites, for setting up program amenities, and for providing exceptional guest service.

This is a salaried position with a part-time commitment in one of the country's most beautiful and iconic landscapes. In addition to a paycheck, team members can expect guest gratuities to supplement their compensation significantly.

Scheduling:
This is a part-time salaried position. Because our programming is weather-dependent, you are on-call for scheduled nights (typically 5 nights per week), however, the number of nights you actually work varies. The summer program season goes from June through mid October, with training in late May or early June. Continuation into winter season (December through March) is negotiable.

We understand that many Astronomers have commitments, academic or otherwise, that may prevent them from staying through the official end of the season, or that may affect when they can arrive in Jackson Hole. Talk with us - we want to work with you!
