Intern Position Available

U.S. Department of Justice

Environment and Natural Resources Division

Law and Policy Section 

The Law and Policy Section (LPS) of the Environment and Natural Resources Division (ENRD) at the U.S. Department of Justice advises and assists the Assistant Attorney General on legal and policy issues. 

LPS’s key responsibilities include coordinating cross-cutting issues and initiatives; managing the legislative docket; coordinating review of draft rulemakings; coordinating ENRD involvement on issues affecting Indian tribes; managing amicus litigation; coordinating ENRD’s international portfolio; coordinating ENRD responses to Freedom of Information Act Requests; advising ENRD staff on ethics and professional responsibility; managing oversight of Clean Water Act and Clean Air Act citizen suits; and other special projects. LPS represents the Division on a number of Departmental and government-wide committees. 

Duties of the unpaid undergraduate intern position would include providing assistance in any of these areas. 

Applicants must be U.S. citizens, pass a mandatory background check, and be willing to commit to at least 20 hours per week. Applicants should be either enrolled as undergraduates during the internship, or planning to return to their school in the time period following the conclusion of the internship. 

Applications must be received no later than 11:59pm on Monday, April 22, 2024. The internship will run roughly from early September to mid-December (dates flexible). We will also consider applications from students on the quarter system on a case-by-case basis. Please specify in your cover letter the dates, number of hours that you would be available, and whether you plan are available to work remotely or in-person.
