Summer Internship

BIO

Cousins is a full service production studio and creative agency working at the intersection of cinema, television and commercial filmmaking. We are LGBTQ and woman owned with offices in NYC and teams working globally.

Our series The Come Up for Freeform/Hulu was nominated for a GLAAD award for Outstanding Reality Series and Cousins' partners, Jess and Ana, co-directed Planet Sex with Cara Delevingne. As a production company, Cousins is dedicated to supporting filmmakers and creating stories that reflect diverse experiences and reach millions. From Art installations at the National Gallery in London to reality series, Cousins brings the same playful, beautiful, and galvanizing dedication to all genres.

OVERVIEW

We are looking for an intern who is extremely excited to enter the professional world of film production. This is largely an office based internship with additional opportunities to support our productions on set. People applying should be interested in the management and business side of production. They should be organized, efficient, curious and a self starter.

Interns will gain invaluable experience in unscripted tv development and commercial film production. Interns will also have the opportunity to sit in on meetings with producers, directors, and other industry creatives and develop an understanding of how ideas can turn into tv series and feature films.

Learning Objectives & Responsibilities

Development Research

Interns will be responsible for thoroughly researching documentary ideas and subjects. We’re interested in someone who goes down rabbit holes, scours the archives, and has a good sense of what key information will be useful to our projects. Photo research will also be key in the aid of decks and treatments.

Day to Day / Office Management and Social Media Assistance

Interns will assist the office manager in maintaining the organization of our office space and relationships with our tenants. This includes the ordering and restocking of office and cleaning supplies, coordinating deliveries from outside vendors, and being a point of contact for tenants and guests in the space. Interns will also be responsible for helping to maintain Cousins social media pages and our website presence.

Post Management

Safely storing and archiving a completed project is just as important as making it. Interns will learn how to maintain and organize our hard drives and storage space. Interns will gain knowledge in post media management, best practices for media storage, and learn valuable skills on what it takes to set up an edit project from start to finish.

On Set Production Assistance

In addition to the in office support interns will be expected to assist our productions in the field on the days they are scheduled and will be offered the opportunity to join productions for any other days of the week. Any additional days worked outside of your weekly schedule will be compensated at $18/hr. Major responsibilities will include - gear pickups and returns, assisting our coordinator with logistics, and providing interdepartmental support on set.

SPECIAL PROJECT

Interns will be tasked with identifying and cultivating a project of their own throughout the summer term that engages their personal interests with Cousins business and community building objectives. This could look like programming a screening series at the office or developing and creating a social media campaign. This project, with the support of Cousins partners, is made to both push your creative ideas forward and give you the mentorship and production support needed to bring your project to life. After your first two weeks at Cousins we will expect to hear proposals.

ELIGIBILITY

This opportunity is open to current undergraduate students in their Junior and Senior year or recent graduates. A travel and food stipend will be provided at $100/day.

COMMITMENT

2x days a week in office during normal office hours (10a-6p est) for the length of your summer program (approx 2.5 months)
