NIH Bioethics Clinical Research Research Assistant

The Department of Bioethics at the NIH Clinical Center is seeking a Research Assistant. The Department is a leader in bioethics research using a variety of research methods (ranging from normative analyses to empirical methods, involving primary data collection, both qualitative and quantitative). The Research Assistant will support faculty in research, teaching and administrative tasks. Specific responsibilities will include: 

 

  • Assist with all stages of the research process, including conducting literature searches, protocol and instrument development, recruitment, data acquisition and analysis (using a variety of methods under the supervision of the investigator), and manuscript preparation and submission
  • Prepare materials for IRB submission, manuscript transmittals, compliance with NIH public access policy through PubMed Central, and other necessary approvals or reviews as needed.
  • Assist in maintenance of Departmental metrics and databases, and monitor intramural and extramural communication lines
  • Help coordinate the logistics of courses, seminars and workshops, the Empirical Research Lab, ethics consultations, and fellowship selection, including the course Ethical and Regulatory Aspects of Clinical Research
  • Handle concurrent deadlines and tasks.
  • Take initiative to identify additional opportunities to support faculty and suggest improvements for the above tasks. 

 

Opportunities include attending bioethics seminars and working closely with Department staff and fellows in a highly collaborative, collegial, and interdisciplinary environment. Co-authorship on publications is possible. The research assistant will be hired on a contract basis with the possibility of a longer-term arrangement.

 

Qualifications: Reliability, maturity, and good task and time-management skills. Willingness to work with multiple people, and handle and prioritize multiple concurrent tasks. Excellent library, computer, oral and written communication skills; evidence of ability to perform library and web-based research. Experience working with and managing quantitative and qualitative data. Experience with statistical software (e.g., STATA, NVivo) is desirable. Must have at least a BA/BS; prior experience in research desirable. Persons with master’s level training are also encouraged to apply.
