Economics Editorial Internship, Summer 2024

About the internship

W. W. Norton is looking for interns to participate in our twelve-week internship program.  Our internship program provides participants with an engaging, supportive, and hands-on learning experience in publishing that includes brown bag lunch sessions and networking within the intern class. Your work if you become a Norton intern with the Economics Editorial team may include the following:

  • Manuscript prep and formatting for college economics textbook titles such as Games of Strategy, Econometrics, Principles of Economics, and Essentials of Economics. 
  • Reviewing manuscripts and copyedited versions of digital products such as lecture PowerPoints, instructor’s manuals, test banks, and InQuizitive, Norton’s adaptive quizzing tool as well as preparing them to upload to Norton’s software programs
  • Ensuring eBook content aligns with the print book as well as the functionality of eBook specific features such as interactivity
  • Creating, formatting, and editing Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, etc. files to begin, work on, and complete projects and office duties
  • Market development research and compilation/organization of sales opportunity data
  • Some cross-compatible work with textbooks on the Political Science list, as necessary
  • Researching and compiling information on the current academic market
  • Actively working to maintain/troubleshoot our online instructor resources including animations, simulations, videos, online homework questions, and PowerPoint presentations
  • Reading manuscripts, proposals, and proofs at various stages of publication to help editors and authors improve the quality of print and digital content
  • Compiling materials such as photos, images, and graphs and preparing manuscripts for reviews and production 
  • Creating and maintaining lists and databases of key information such as digital content, contacts, and book review programs 
  • Helping with general administrative tasks such as submitting requests for author payments, tracking professors, organizing spreadsheets, etc.
  • Potentially assisting with related tasks for political science and environmental science titles as needed

  • You are a college junior, senior, recent graduate, or someone looking to make a career change. 
  • You have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • You enjoy collaborating and working in a group to solve challenges.
  • You have a passion for learning and ideas. 
  • You have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • You are detail-oriented, organized, and flexible in your work approach. 
  • You have a demonstrated interest in academic/college/textbook publishing. 
  • Prior coursework in economics is preferred, but not required.

 

Internship details

  • Interns are paid $16 per hour, subject to applicable law, and work a maximum of 20 hours weekly.
  • Internship period is twelve weeks from 6/3/2024 – 8/23/2024.
  • Our workday is 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time; specific work hours are flexible to accommodate an intern’s schedule.
  • For interns who reside within commuting distance of the office, this internship will be in-person in our Manhattan offices; those in other locations will work remotely.
  • Eligibility to work with W.W. Norton & Company in the US is required.
