Who We Are

Big Beach is the Academy and Emmy Award-winning independent studio behind more than 25 of the most recognizable indie films, television, and theater productions over the last 15 years. Founded in 2004, Big Beach has produced many acclaimed projects including the Academy Award-winning LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE and the Academy Award-nominated LOVING, directed by Jeff Nichols and starring Ruth Negga. Big Beach also produced A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD, directed by Marielle Heller and starring Tom Hanks, and the A24 Sundance Film Festival breakout THE FAREWELL, directed by Lulu Wang and starring Awkwafina. As a TV studio Big Beach is behind the critically acclaimed series VIDA, which ran for three seasons on Starz, as well as Ry Russo-Young’s Docu-series NUCLEAR FAMILY which premiered on HBO in late 2021. Big Beach also produced STRANGERS and SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS starring Elizabeth Olsen, which were among the first scripted series to launch on Facebook Watch. Most recently, Big Beach produced JULES directed by Marc Turtletaub and starring Ben Kingsley, as well as Amber Sealey's OUT OF MY MIND which is premiering at Sundance and will release on Disney+ in 2024.

What We Want

Big Beach is looking for interns who can commit to coming in two or three days a week. We are a small production company and interns will get the opportunity to work closely with all members of the company. Interns will primarily be reading scripts, writing coverage, and assisting with development research projects, but they will also be asked to fulfill general administrative duties including shipping, filing, answering phones, running errands, and other office management duties. This is a great opportunity for someone who is interested in entertainment, loves TV and Film and is eager to learn about the industry.

Our ideal candidate is someone who is driven, resourceful, and eager to learn about the film and TV business. Qualified candidates are empathetic and skilled communicators who are unafraid to ask questions. We’re looking for those who are not only avid film/TV fans, but who are passionate about art and pop culture in general. We want to learn from you!

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate is excited to learn about the creative side of entertainment at an established media company, has strong attention to detail, possesses a positive attitude and has an eagerness to learn.
  • We are looking for motivated, organized interns with positive attitudes and excellent communication skills who are able to work well in a busy office environment.
  • Current college students, current grad students, or recent graduates
  • Excellent analytical and written skills
  • Patience, attention to detail, organization, and the ability to multitask
  • Adaptability in a fast paced environment
  • Familiarity with Google workplace (sheets, docs, etc.)
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States

Bonus Qualifications

  • Familiarity or experience using Miro
  • Familiarity or experience using Airtable
  • Experience writing script coverage

Responsibilities

  • Our interns will have hands-on opportunities to learn and immerse themselves in day-to-day creative activities, including reading, evaluating, discussing material, writing coverage, drafting filmmaker/talent lists, conducting research, keeping grids up to date, and tracking submissions
  • Additionally, interns will gain Office Operations experience providing general support and assisting with office supply management for the Big Beach offices as a whole
  • Front Desk coverage

Program Information 

  • This is an in-person position where you will be required to be in-office
  • You must be located in LA for the duration of your internship to be considered
  • Please have a reliable source of transportation to and from your internship.

Program Dates

  • The program will run from around May 28th, 2024 – August 30th, 2024 
  • There is flexibility in terms of the start and end dates depending on your school’s schedule. 
  • 2-3 days a week / 9:30am-6:30pm PST
  • Compensation: $16.78/hour
