Intern – Artificial Intelligence (AI) Testing (Summer)

The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is a dynamic organization committed to excellence in public service. As a recognized leader in the transportation sector, we are seeking a talented summer Intern to join our team. The Transportation Department of NCTCOG is seeking an Intern to support the Department’s process improvement initiative, identifying and testing available artificial intelligence products to streamline administrative processes. Ideal candidates would live in the Dallas-Fort Worth region during the summer but are not required. Candidates should be able to work at least 25 hours a week from approximately mid-May to mid-August 2024. Continuing employment opportunities may be available for Interns who are successful in this position.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Planning: Combining creativity, practicality, organization, and problem solving to develop pilot projects that utilize artificial intelligence to streamline administrative processes
  • Testing: Utilizing knowledge of generative AI tools, test scenarios and processes to efficiently organize and manage project-related documentation
  • Documenting: Applying your attention to detail, capture essential information and maintain accurate records of actions and results
  • Assessing:  Employing AI-driven analysis to evaluate project success and identify opportunities for new process implementation

Required Skills:

  • Working knowledge of generative AI tools
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Understanding of process workflows
  • Detail oriented, highly-organized, with an ability to manage multiple assignments/tasks and work well in a deadline-driven environment without diminishing quality of work
  • Strong problem-solving ability and critical-thinking skills (i.e., finding errors and seeking alternatives to drive alternate results)
  • Action oriented with ability to maintain focus on objectives and advance projects to create usable products
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to listen to and follow instructions, coordinate with other team members, and present ideas

Required Education and Experience

  • Must be attending an accredited college or university in a degree-seeking program during employment
  • No work experience required

Starting Salary

Minimum of $16.00 per hour

The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is a voluntary association of, by, and for local governments, and was established to assist local governments in planning for common needs, cooperating for mutual benefit, and coordinating for sound regional development. Since 1974, NCTCOG has served as the Metropolitan Planning Organization for transportation in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan Area and is responsible for developing transportation plans and programs that address the complex needs of the rapidly growing area. The planning area for transportation includes the 12 counties of Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Hood, Hunt, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, and Wise.
