The Case Assistant assumes a supportive role, collaborating closely with the litigation team to ready cases for litigation, trial, arbitration, or resolution. Responsibilities include organizing, preparing, and filing legal documents, offering administrative assistance throughout trials and litigation, addressing client needs, and fulfilling other support tasks as deemed necessary by the legal team.

 

Key remits of the role

  • Organize, manage, format, and edit general case digital files and correspondence using iManage, Google Suite, and One Drive
  • Set up and monitor client alerts using specialized media platforms such as CNS and Bloomberg Law
  • Draft template pleadings for attorney use and future reference
  • Prepare and finalize Tables of Contents (TOC) and Tables of Authorities (TOA) for court e-filings
  • Review court documents and correspondence meticulously for accuracy before publication, under the supervision and guidance of senior team members
  • Conduct factual research and compile reports for the legal team's reference, utilizing various databases including Bloomberg Law, CNS, Westlaw, Lexis, Intelligize, Rocketreach, Pacer, and File & ServeExpress
  • Research and prepare materials for hearings and trials
  • Coordinate with external vendors to fulfill various requests from the legal team
  • Maintain and update litigation trackers for internal and client use
  • Collaborate with the US Managing Attorney team to manage CompuLaw legal team calendar deadlines and notifications
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Essential Qualifications

  • Preferred Bachelor's degree
  • 0-1 years of relevant experience
  • Enthusiastic, proactive, and self-motivated with flexibility to contribute significantly in a dynamic, team-oriented setting
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Strong multitasking and prioritization skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Sound judgment and decisiveness
  • Excellent organizational abilities with meticulous attention to detail
  • Proficient in proofreading skills
  • Professional communication skills with the ability to build rapport with partners, associates, and clients
  • Prompt and accurate responsiveness via email and/or Microsoft Teams
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite
  • Willingness and interest in working overtime, including nights and weekends, with some potential for travel

 

Desirable Qualifications

  • Proficiency in conducting database searches and utilizing databases
  • Knowledge of a foreign language is advantageous, especially Spanish

 

For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in New York and California, Freshfields is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This compensation range is specific to the States of New York and California and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $60,000 to $70,000.
