Public Relations/Press Internship

Public Relations/Press Internship

The Brooklyn Book Festival seeks motivated interns, who are equally self-starters and team players and are interested in gaining experience producing and promoting a premier literary festival. The Brooklyn Book Festival is New York City's largest literary festival and will take place September 22 - September 30, 2024, with both in-person and virtual events. Interns will help with all aspects of the Festival’s key events, including the flagship Festival Day in Downtown Brooklyn, when more than 50-panel discussions and readings and 300 national and international authors are presented, the Virtual Festival Day and the BKBF Children's Day, which celebrates childhood literature through readings, workshops, and author presentations.

Responsibilities: Scope of work will include developing media lists, monitoring press mentions, collaborating on pitch development and reaching out to reporters/outlets, contributing to social media activities, helping maintain content calendars, assisting with press releases, adding content to the Festival’s digital app, updating content on the Festival website, and more.

Qualifications: Current college students, graduate students, or recent graduates who are self-starters, organized, and have strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong candidates will have the ability to work collaboratively with other team members and demonstrate proficiency with content management systems (Airtable, Dropbox, Google). The office is busy, and being able to work with good humor under tight deadlines is an asset. And, of course, a love of books is very important!

Compensation: Interns are paid $16 an hour for a 12-week internship. Following the internship, successful candidates may be offered short-term, part-time work during the month leading up to and including Festival week. Additionally, the internship provides an experience that allows candidates to build their portfolio and acquire professional resume-enhancing experience.

Internships require a commitment of 15 hours per week, Monday through Friday (ideally three 5-hour days).

The position will be remote in June and July and potentially in person at a Brooklyn location in  August. Due to this, the candidate must be based in a commutable location to Brooklyn.

Summer Internships: June 3 - August 23, 2023

Applications due May 5, 2024

To apply, please submit your resume and a cover letter explaining your interest and qualifications for the position.

Applications that do not include the above two items will not be considered.
