RCB Undergrad Peer Mentor/Teaching Assist. (Only Accepting Applications from Undergraduate Students)

The Dean’s Office in the J. Mack Robinson College of Business is hiring several Peer Mentors/Teaching Assistants for the Fall 2024 semester. We are looking for RCB seniors to join our RCB Freshman Success Team. As part of this team, your paid assignment for Fall 2023 will be to teach two (2) 1-hour sections of the RCB’s version of the University's freshman orientation course (GSU 1010). Teaching this course is a great opportunity to help our freshman students; you can have a really big impact on these future leaders as they start their RCB journey.

We will provide you with all of the teaching materials; you will not need to develop any of your own content. We will also hold training and team sessions on teaching this course.  Course section size is expected to be 25 students.

What is a Peer Mentor/Teaching Assistant?

Peer Mentors/Teaching Assistants are undergraduate students who assist in teaching a section of the GSU1010 orientation course for the fall semester. These peer mentors serve as role models, leaders, and trusted points of contact for students participating in First-Year GSU 1010 Orientation Course. Peer mentors work collaboratively with other peer mentors and instructors and the associate dean for undergraduate programs at Robinson to ensure that the academic, personal, and social transitions of our first-year students are successful.

Duties 

  • Work with the associate dean for undergraduate programs to deliver material for the GSU1010 course
  • Serve as a role model and source of information and advice for first-year students at Robinson College
  • Be available for the teaching sessions and trainings sessions on Fridays from 8:30am-2:30pm
  • Perform assigned administrative responsibilities in a timely manner
  • Remain professional and have a positive attitude

Required Qualifications 

  • Robinson College of Business (RCB) Undergraduate student
  • Seniors with an Expected Graduation Date of Spring 2025 or Fall 2024
  • Good academic and judicial standing

Desired Qualifications 

  • Prior mentoring and peer leadership experience is ideal
  • Previous engagement in internships and RBC signature programs is preferred (e.g. Robinson Immersion Sophomore Experience (RISE), Panthers Accelerated Career Experience (PACE), Panthers Immersion Program (PIP), Honors Experience in Business (HexB), WomenLead, Study Abroad etc.)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to function effectively in a collaborative environment.
  • Adaptability and willingness to be flexible.

Terms of Employment                                                             

  • $10.00 per hour
  • 10 hours per week
    • 6 hours per week - In person, Fridays 8:30AM-2:30PM
    • 4 hours per week - Remote, flexible days/time
