Education Unit 2024 Summer Internship

Partners of the Americas is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that for 60 years has been bringing together people, organizations, and expertise to develop lasting solutions to our hemisphere’s toughest challenges.

Are you ready to embark on a journey that transcends borders and fosters innovation in education? Partners’ International Office is in Washington, D.C. and is currently looking for a passionate and knowledgeable intern for the Education Unit, primarily to work on assignments related to the 100,000 Strong in the Americas Innovation Fund. In collaboration with the U.S. Department of State, Partners of the Americas administers this capacity-building and grantmaking program to support colleges, universities, and other post-secondary institutions throughout the Western Hemisphere to develop partnerships that make international study and training more broadly available to all students.  

 

The Education Unit Intern will support the Innovation Fund in its day-to-day activities aimed at promoting current and upcoming grant opportunities and events for networks of higher education institutions. They will also assist in implementing orientation and follow-up phases with grant recipients, students, and faculty, and will support the program's monitoring, evaluation assignments, and reporting on project outcomes.

Also, the candidate must present the following skillset: 

Academic Achievement: Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an accredited college or program, with a keen interest in international affairs and minimum GPA of 3.0. The expected engagement for the internship program is an academic period (i.e., semester or quarter).

Flexibility & Dedication: We require a minimum commitment of 25-30 hours per week, with the option for virtual work. If you’re based in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, there is a requirement to be at the POA office once per week.

Tech-Savvy & Detailed Oriented: From compiling data to drafting reports, proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is a must. We seek strong task prioritization, organizational, and proofreading skills that ensure that deadlines are met and that no detail goes unnoticed.

Passion for Cross-Cultural Learning & Application: Strong cross-cultural/interpersonal skills, including ability to interact with diverse stakeholders and work with team members in a dynamic environment in various settings.

Passion for Global Engagement: Whether it’s grants management, student/alumni outreach, monitoring and evaluation, or fostering international relations in the Western Hemisphere, your interest and knowledge in these areas will drive our collaborative efforts.

Administrative and Event Planning: Administrative skills, including logistics, to implement program activities and plan virtual and in-person events.

Multilingual? Great! Proficiency in Spanish or Portuguese is a plus (not required)! Strong oral and written skills in English are essential for effective communication in our diverse team and with our network of Higher Education Institutions, students, and faculty.

Scope of Work

We are seeking an Intern to join our team and contribute to the essential functions of the 100,000 Strong in the Americas program within the Education Unit. The intern will be responsible for the following:

  • Fuel Innovation & Capacity-Building: Assist the 100,000 Strong in the Americas Innovation Fund team in the on-going planning and coordination of grant competitions, technical assistance workshops, student/alumni engagement events.
  • Conduct Global Outreach: Co-lead organizing and hosting webinars, connecting with students and faculty members in both English and Spanish.
  • Access to the Behind-the-Scenes of Grant making & Administration: Support the grant award administration process, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in documentation and tracking.
  • Shape Today’s and Tomorrow’s Leaders in International Education: Help evaluate grant applications and contribute valuable insights during the grant winner selection process.
  • Convey Program Impact: Support program staff in data collection and analysis on program impact. Assist with the donor reporting process by drafting project summaries and compiling annexes.
  • Influence the Engagement and Growth of Our Network: Draft correspondence and update program materials in English, Spanish and/or Portuguese for diverse audiences, such as HEIs, students, and faculty.
  • Professional Growth & Development: Develop self-directed learning goals to measure own progress and achievement.

A small daily stipend of $40 to $60/day will provided. Dependent on level of education or work experience.

Maintaining confidentiality and using discretion when discussing Finance, HR, and Executive issues, especially within the Partners Office, is of the utmost importance.
