The paralegal specialist performs a wide variety of duties in support of legal activities primarily in support of the work of the Enforcement and Litigation Division (MC-CCE) Trial Attorneys, but such work may also include work for other attorneys within MC-CCE.

As a Paralegal Specialist, you will:

Research questions, regarding enforcement cases and regulatory actions; analyzes statutory authority; and provides regulatory interpretations that allow attorneys to respond to client inquiries.

Responsible for tracking all claims, filings, notices and settlements in civil penalty cases, safety rating appeals and bankruptcy filings processed through the legal offices.

Assists attorneys in preparing draft Motions for Final Orders, Submissions of Evidence, Record Consolidation Orders, Exhibits, and other papers for filings, notices and correspondence.

Responsible for the analysis and evaluation of claims and other matters related to the Bankruptcy Code, the Freedom of Information Act and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.

 The ideal candidate also has at least two years of experience in a broad range of legal areas, especially motor carrier safety, hazardous materials, and commercial enforcement programs, and administrative litigation. The ideal candidate also has excellent legal research, communication (verbal and written), teamwork, and organizational skills. A strong working knowledge of electronic legal research tools such as Lexis/Westlaw and office software such as Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, and Adobe, is also essential.
