Cabins and Trails Crew

About us: 
The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is the largest provider of hands-on environmental conservation programs for youth and young adults. Program participants protect and restore national parks, marine sanctuaries, cultural landmarks, and community green spaces across the country.

Position Description:
Core program work will include developed recreation site operations/maintenance, on cabins and trails within the Seward Ranger District of the Chugach National Forest.

Interns will work with permanent and seasonal staff to engage with volunteers on site management, construction, and partnerships to help develop a sustainable developed recreation program. Interns will need to bring a positive attitude, and willingness to work in inclement (wet) weather.

This position is based out of the Kenai Lake Work Center in Moose Pass, AK. Moose Pass is a friendly and picturesque little town with a year-round population of about 350. It is tucked away in the mountains along the shoreline of Upper Trail Lake at Mile 29 of the Seward Highway, a National Scenic Byway.

Member Benefits:

  • $310 - monthly housing allowance to pay for USFS bunkhouse costs (you are expected to use this to budget for your USFS housing which you will pay the USFS for)
    • Housing in the form of a bunkhouse will be available.  All rooms are double occupancy.  While dormitories may be co-ed, we generally put same sex roommates together.  Dorms include use of the kitchen, living room, bathroom and laundry facilities.
  • AmeriCorps eligible ($2,626.27 Education Award)

Additional Information:
It is SCA's policy that all AmeriCorps-required background checks must return cleared prior to the position's start; this includes being fingerprinted for the FBI check. Otherwise, the AmeriCorps award will be removed or the position's start date will be delayed due to non-compliance.
