Research Technician, Host-Targeted Integrated Tick Management

Primary duties will be the field component of various integrated tick management projects that occur in forested, residential neighborhoods. Duties will include maintaining treated bait stations for mice and feeding stations for white-tailed deer at numerous houses in the greater New Haven area as well as tick sampling and assisting with rodent capture and handling. The position will also require testing of the effectiveness of various types of treated clothing for tick repellency. Administrative duties will include data entry, tick species identification and storage, and supervision of seasonal employees. 

A Bachelor’s degree in any field related to ticks and tick ecology (entomology, wildlife biology, natural resources, environmental studies) is required or 2 years of college with at least 3 years of professional experience. Other qualifications include dependability, the ability to work independently and within a group, meticulousness, willingness to learn new tasks, a high level of organization, and good communication skills. The position requires the repeated lifting of 30 lb. buckets and 50 lb. bags up a stepladder to maintain deer feeders and the ability to properly operate a pickup truck. Applicants must have a valid driver's license. Experience with similar past research projects and fieldwork is highly desirable, but not required.
