Scope of Eligibility: Open to applicants who meet the requirements below.

Description: Conduct the field portion of the Access Point Angler Intercept Survey, which involves faceto-face interviews with marine recreational anglers. Staff will travel to assigned sites to interview anglers about their fishing experiences, which includes collecting trip information, weighing and measuring fish caught. Assigned sites can include beaches, piers, docks, jetties, marinas and boat ramps, as well as at-sea sampling on head boats. Staff use provided tablets to collect interview data. Applicants must be willing to travel reasonable distances to reach assigned sites throughout coastal NJ; be available on weekends and weekdays, with additional availability during some evenings and nights. Individuals should be comfortable approaching and speaking with anglers; handling, measuring and weighing fish; and working outside for extended periods of time in variable weather conditions.

Preferred Skill Set: Proven communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to work independently, organize work, and solve problems following prescribed procedures. Knowledge of local fish species with experience in recreational angling and familiarity of marine waterways in NJ.

 

Requirements 

Age: Applicants must be at least 18 years old. 

License: Applicants must have a driver's license valid in New Jersey, and access to a personal vehicle. 

Other: These positions require individuals to work a minimum of 3 shifts per week, including at least two six-hour shifts each weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday). Staff must have flexible availability and be able to work a variety of the following shift times: 2 a.m. - 8 a.m.; 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.; 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.; 2 p.m. - 8 p.m.; 8 p.m. – 2 a.m. This position is located primarily at fishing access sites across the state, with occasional office days at the Nacote Creek Research Station in Port Republic, NJ. Work is performed primarily in an outdoor setting (regardless of inclement weather).

Residency: All persons newly hired on or after September 1, 2011 have one year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain principal residence in the State of New Jersey subject to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L.2011, Chapter 70), also known as the "New Jersey First Act".

Authorization to Work: Selected candidates must be authorized to work in the United States per the Department of Homeland Security, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations. Note: The State of New Jersey does not provide sponsorship for citizenship to the United States.
