Tutor Counselor Job Description

Upward Bound Program

Saint Francis University

 

Salary:                        $2,200.  In addition, the Upward Bound Program pays for room, board,                                               and any admissions for tutor counselors throughout the summer                                                     program.

Contract Period:    The tentative dates for the 2024 Summer Program are Sunday, June                                                 16th – Friday, July 26th, with tutor counselor orientation being held                                                 from Monday, June 10th – Friday, June 14th. 

Responsible To:      Upward Bound Director, Assistant Director, and Residence Program                                                          Supervisors

Qualifications:

  • College student or graduate in an appropriate academic discipline with a minimum Q.P.A of 3.0 and relevant work experience
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise students in a campus setting
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and address the specific needs of economically disadvantaged students

Major Responsibilities:

  • To supervise the program participants and enforce the student rules and regulations
  • To provide the students with academic, career, and personal counseling
  • To attend and serve as a teacher's aide in three - four classes
  • To provide students with tutorial assistance during the evening study hours
  • To chaperone students during on-campus activities and off-campus trips
  • To develop and conduct afternoon activities for the program participants
  • To record all student contacts in the counselor consultation sheets
  • To perform all duties as listed on the weekly duty roster
  • To complete all program evaluations
  • To complete all duties as assigned by the Upward Bound Director, Assistant Director, and Residence Program Supervisors
