Senior Housing Coordinator

The Senior Housing Coordinator is responsible for providing housing support to individuals receiving services through the Behavioral Health Residential Services. The SHC will assist with housing searches and stabilization services to persons served.  Services include identifying, negotiating, and securing housing units and housing assistance programs as well as providing stabilization services during the initial tenancy period. Responsibilities also include assisting with advocacy and informational services to the general community. They will act as a team lead by assisting Program Leadership in daily operations and staff development as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the Housing Coordinator that supports the HOME Team.
  • Assist Director of Housing in training and development of the entire service line of housing coordinators.
  • Assist Director of Housing in monitoring required documentation, client satisfaction, staff trainings and other areas as assigned.
  • Provide support to the ACCS Team and HOME Team as it relates to housing needs for individuals receiving services.
  • Provides oversight of the licensing tracking and documentation as it pertains to landlord corrections.
  • Conduct annual and ad hoc reports for McKinney using the VESTA reporting tool.
  • Address housing/tenancy conflicts as they arise with the goal to keep people in stable housing.
  • Identify available and appropriate housing units, assessing for affordability, location, condition and safety.
  • Assist individuals in securing units, including viewing sites, completing the application process, follow up with potential units and move-in.
  • Assist individuals to obtain documentation needed to apply for benefits, such as, photo identification, social security cards, and birth certificates. 
  • Assist individuals in obtaining benefits such as health insurance, social security, and transition assistance.
  • Provide stabilization services during the transition period after move-in.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with service providers who may refer applicants as well as satisfy community care needs for individuals.
  • Assist individuals in completing applications to access state and federal housing assistance.
  • Assist individuals with completing annual recertification paperwork and unit inspections required to maintain housing subsidies.
  • Provide support with HUD property recertifications to ensure that they are completed correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Monitor licensing deficiencies & follow up with staff or property owners as needed.
  • Maintain up to date records in accordance with grant requirements and agency standards.
  • Ensure all paperwork, reports, trainings are up to date and completed within expected timelines.
  • Attend and actively participate in all trainings as assigned and maintain necessary certifications (CPR, First Aid, crisis management, etc.).
  • Attend and actively participate in supervisions and staff meetings as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 2 years’ experience in managing affordable housing and/or housing supports.
  • Current, active real estate license in Massachusetts.  
  • Strongly prefer a candidate that will have a demonstrated understanding of and competence in serving culturally diverse populations. American Sign Language proficiency preferred.
  • Strong computer knowledge including Excel and MS Word
  • Expert knowledge of housing assistance benefits and low-income housing programs.
  • Must have budget management and record keeping skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and as well as work independently
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task and strong attention to detail
  • High energy level and superior interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, the homeless, and community providers.
  • Ability to work and negotiate with private landlords and real estate companies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
  • Must hold a valid drivers’ license.  Must have access to an operational and insured vehicle and be willing to use it to transport clients.
