Data Analysis Intern for ILP Member Profiles

With over 230 members, the MIT Industrial Liaison Program (ILP) is industry’s most comprehensive portal to MIT, enabling companies worldwide to harness MIT resources to address current challenges and to anticipate future needs. The ILP helps company executives monitor MIT research developments, identify MIT resources of interest, arrange expert face-to-face meetings with MIT faculty, advise on research sponsorship and technology licensing opportunities, and link member companies to MIT-connected startups.

Compiling and analyzing data on the distribution of our ILP members by sectors and regions is essential for evaluating the alignment of our portfolio.  The objective of this internship is to compile and analyze industry and academia data, leveraging Excel proficiency to generate insights into the composition of our overall ILP member portfolio.

During this internship, you will:

  • Establish a comprehensive list of information required for each member and organize the data in Excel, ensuring adherence to confidentiality protocols.
  • Utilize Excel functions and pivot tables to analyze and visualize the MIT ILP member portfolio, identifying key trends and insights.
  • Develop a Minimum Viable Product in Excel, demonstrating the ability to effectively organize and present the compiled data.
  • Conduct feedback sessions with relevant stakeholders to refine the data representation and ensure alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Finalize the Excel-based tool and present the findings to the MIT Corporate Relations team.

This internship offers a talented student the opportunity to work closely with our team. You will work both collaboratively while engaging in team meetings and impromptu interactions, and independently as you work to demonstrate proficiency in utilizing Excel functions and pivot tables to compile and analyze complex datasets, along with a meticulous approach to handling confidential information. We seek a motivated and detail-oriented intern who can contribute effectively to our mission of advancing collaboration between industry and academia, utilizing Excel as a powerful tool for data compilation and analysis.
