JOB TITLE – Intern, Preformulations

Blueprint Medicines is seeking an intern to support preformulation and early drug product research on new chemical entities. This temporary position resides within the Formulations Sciences group of Technical Operations in the Non-clinical Development Sciences organization. The intern candidate will contribute to the execution of laboratory activities related to the transition of novel small molecule compounds from Discovery into Development in support of Blueprint Medicines’ pre- clinical programs. An ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in chemistry, and a keen interest in pharmaceutics/drug product development.

TYPICAL WORKING HOURS

Monday-Friday: 9-5 pm
40 hours/week
Program dates are expected to be May 28th - August 16th, with flexibility as needed.

SUMMER VACATION

July 1st - 5th (company shut down)
Additional vacation time can be discussed with supervisor

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Performing excipient screens for new chemical entities
  2. Performing physicochemical characterization of new chemical entities and preclinical formulations using: [XRPD, PLM, HPLC and dissolution.
  3. Preparing buffers and other solutions required for the laboratory
  4. Maintaining an accurate and timely lab notebook

 

In addition to assisting in routine preformulation laboratory analyses, the candidate will also be investigating and implementing the following individual project:

  1. Investigate nanoparticle suspension and develop formulation prototypes for screening.
  2. Assess the impact of enabled formulations on exposures for poorly soluble compounds, including targeted protein degraders.
  3. Determine in vivo exposure between conventional and enabled formulation, with lipidic chase dosing for targeted protein degraders.
  4. The candidate will coordinate with in-house animal care facility personnel to prepare formulations and interpret animal data to determine the impact of lipidic formulations on in vivo exposures.

Onsite expectations – 5 days/week

This internship will be a chance for you to learn many of the skills mentioned above.

Rising sophomore, junior or senior pursuing a degree in Chemistry or related field

PAY RATE

$23-25/hour, based on class year

Accessible via public transportation: Central Square Stop on the Red Line or Bus 1 and 47, Mass Ave/Sidney Street Stop.

REMOTE-WORK

It would be ideal for the candidate to work on-site in order to participate in program events, but a hybrid schedule will work as responsibilities can be done remotely. We will provide a laptop needed to perform work remotely or on-site.
