Department Summary:

The MITRE Corporation’s Resilient Communications Department (N152) focuses on creating and fielding adaptive communications and networking infrastructure to successfully execute different mission areas for Operations in Contested Environments (OCE). Our work involves modernizing currently fielded communications systems while developing/fielding the next generation communications capabilities used by the United States military and international partners across all domains from underwater to aerial to space-based. Our primary areas of concentration include RF communications, networking, modeling and simulation, systems integration, systems engineering, and software development.

 

Job Description:

You will leverage an understanding of wireless communications, RF/analog hardware, antenna systems, RF propagation, or other similar technical disciplines to support a variety of projects depending on your development goals and sponsor needs. This position may also involve working as an individual contributor in a collaborative team environment to analyze advanced networking concepts and address networking challenges to support a variety of projects and sponsor needs.

 

You will use laboratory instrumentation (e.g. spectrum analyzer, network analyzer, signal & waveform generators) to characterize the performance of commercial and military communications systems

 

You will analyze RF system performance (range, data throughout, coverage, co-location performance) using various modeling and/or testing techniques

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • You are eager to learn new skills and technologies
  • Typically requires less than 1 year of related experience with a related Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
  • You have an interest in wireless communications, RF/analog hardware, antenna design, digital signal processing (DSP), networking or other related technical disciplines
  • Experience using laboratory instrumentation (e.g. spectrum analyzer, network analyzer, signal & waveform generators) in an academic or commercial environment
  • You have interpersonal skills to effectively work in multi-disciplinary teams across organizations
  • Currently pursuing (or recently received) a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or similar fields
  • Experience with software development methods and object-oriented programming, including experience in a modern programming language (C/C++, Python, Java, JavaScript)
  • Understanding of networks and fundamental layer 3 and 4 protocols (e.g., IP, TCP, UDP, etc.)
  • Experience using software tools like Docker and Git
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to possess/maintain a DoD Secret

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with software defined radios (SDR) and DSP
  • Experience with designing, testing, and/or prototyping RF and communications equipment
  • Ability to possess/maintain a Top Secret clearance
