Position Summary:

The Summer Camp Director will work alongside other members of the camp team to ensure that overnight summer camp is implemented successfully. This position reports to the Director of Camp & Outdoor Education. The Summer Camp Director will manage and facilitate overnight camp while working within the scope and sequence of the Camp & Outdoor yearly plan.


 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and plan engaging and age-appropriate camp programs and activities
  • Ensure a balance of recreational, educational, and outdoor experiences
  • Recruit, hire, and train seasonal camp staff
  • Provide leadership, support, and direction to staff members
  • Conduct regular staff meetings and training sessions
  • Establish and enforce safety guidelines and procedures as required by GSSEM and the State of Michigan
  • Ensure compliance with relevant health and safety regulations
  • Conduct emergency drills and prepare for unforeseen situations
  • Foster a positive and inclusive camp environment for campers
  • Address camper concerns and provide support when needed
  • Organize and oversee group activities and events
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with campers, parents, and staff
  • Provide updates and information through newsletters, meetings, or other channels
  • Oversee day-to-day camp operations, including scheduling, logistics, and facilities
  • Manage the camp budget, expenses, and financial records
  • Collect feedback from campers, parents, and staff for continuous improvement
  • Evaluate program effectiveness and make adjustments as needed
  • Build positive relationships with the local community and stakeholders
  • Represent the camp at community events and engage in outreach activities
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree with concentration in related field or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience in camp administration or a related role
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Knowledge of outdoor and camp programming.
  • Knowledge of safety and health regulations related to camp operations
  • Hold a minimum certification requirement of CPR and First Aid.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with other departments to meet mutual goals.
  • Passion for working with children and creating positive camp experiences
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.


 

Essential Requirements:

  • This position requires registration as a member of Girl Scouts of the U.S.A.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Willingness to hold a temporary residence on campgrounds during summer
