Summary
This position reports to the National Park Service National Trails System and offers duty locations in Santa Fe New Mexico, Salt Lake Utah, San Francisco California or Kansas City Missouri, in the Partnerships and Planning Division.

Duties

This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of four years, or more based on any changes to regulations governing the number of years term appointments may last, without further competition. Term positions do not convey permanent status in the Federal service.

The National Park Service retains the right to extend the duration of this appointment after selection and/or appointment, based on changes to the regulation governing the number of years term appointments may last. This change, which may be made at the agency's sole discretion and without further competition, shall not be construed or interpreted as the granting of a right to a selectee or employee to such an extension. No extension to a term appointment shall be granted to a selectee/employee to an amount of time that exceeds the maximum number of years authorized under any present or current regulation, unless such regulation expressly allows such action.

Major duties for this position include but are not limited to the following:

  • Serves as a planning team member on multidisciplinary teams of professionals responsible for a variety of park planning projects and studies
  • Assists with project management/planning phases by helping develop project objectives, milestones, and timelines and assists with tracking project workflows and budgets.
  • Maintains relationships between the park unit and state, local, and other federal agencies as well as various civic groups, environmental organizations, commercial development organizations and interested individuals.
  • Drafts press releases in coordination with the public information office and prepares other information for public distribution regarding the planning process. Answers routine correspondence related to assigned planning projects.
  • Drafts or contributes to project agreements/project charters for review and approval by supervisor or project manager.
  • Gathers, analyzes, and interprets information and statistical data for inclusion in larger reports or plans.

Salt Lake, Utah: $59,966 - $77,955
San Francisco, CA: $74642 - $97,034
Santa Fe, NM: $60,597 - 78,776

Physical Demands: Most Work is sedentary, but the incumbent is expected to travel when necessary and work in outdoor settings, which require hiking and enduring various, occasionally extreme, environmental conditions. Situations may arise with considerable time constraints and long hours.

Working Conditions: Work is performed primarily in an office environment, meeting room or similar setting. Travel may be frequent and involves the normal risks and discomforts of automobile, bus, rail, or air transportation travel. During periods of fieldwork the employee may be exposed to a variety of climates, altitudes, and other environmental factors.
