Director of School Leadership

Position Title: Directorof School Leadership

 

Pay Grade:A-6                                          Period of Employment: 12 months

Supervised by and/or Reportsto: Executive Directorof Student Achievement

General Responsibilities: Director of School Leadership works collaboratively with division personnel to provide leadership, direction, support, counseling, coaching, and assistance to school-based administration. Oversees all aspects of instruction, management, and administration consistent with Division goals at the buildinglevel.

  • Supports continuous school improvement efforts at each school to include both state and local required processes.
  • Manages instructional and special programs and all affairs related to school administration.
  • Ensures schools are in compliance with school division policies and legal requirements and arein alignment with the Strategic Plan.
  • Serves as an instructional and administrative leader, providing leadership, direction, high qualityfeedback, and support to principals/assistant principals.
  • Ensures that instructional and curricular programs approved by the School Board are fully, appropriately, and equitably implemented.
  • Assesses school needs and effectiveness and collaborates with administrators to develop long- and short-range plans for assignedschools.
  • Works with school principals to identify, plan, develop, coordinate, and implement objectives for school improvement plans and to prepare recommendations for improved student achievement within advanced, general and special student populations.
  • Serves as a mentor and coach to school-based administrators.
  • Assists with the preparation of oral and written communications.
  • Identifies and coordinates professional growth opportunities for staff.
  • Provides input and assists as needed with principal and assistant principal evaluations and recommends appropriate action for performance issues.
  • Identifies and encourages individual school-based instructional staff members with leadership potential.
  • Acts as an advocate for schools, engagingthe community in the development of individual schoolprograms; responds to familyand community group


 

issues/concerns; and participates in family/community meetings.

  • Recognizes, and is sensitive to, the multicultural needs of schools, staff, and community, and provides essential feedback to division personnel, helping to ensure equitable outcomes for all students.
  • Recommends, supervises, and evaluates assignedpersonnel.
  • Works collaboratively with all Directors and Cabinet Members to plan instructional programs.
  • Coordinates school staff allocation and scheduling processwith principals to maximize instruction and school improvement.
  • Supports the implementation of division strategic priorities.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by the Executive Director of StudentAchievement.

 

Requisite Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

  • Knowledge of all aspects of standards-based curriculum and instruction, includingreading instruction, special education, gifted education, Fine Arts, CTE and developing professional learning communities.
  • Possession of leadership skills, qualities and personal characteristics necessary to work effectively with students, teachers, parents, administrators, and the general public.
  • Ability to managefiscal and physical resourcesand to direct the operation of a broad range of activities in order to successfully carry out instructional supportactivities.
  • Knowledge and application of the PreK-12 principles, practices, methods and techniques, of public-school administration.
  • Knowledge of research and current trends in school turnaround and public school education.
  • Ability to establishand maintain successful working relationships with staff, students, and citizens.
  • Ability to communicate school system policiesand programs to the generalpublic, media, and government officials.
  • Ability to communicate skillfully, both orallyand in writing, including preparing complex reports, making formal oral presentations, and participating fluentlyin meetings.

 

Requisite Education and Experience:

 

  • Must possess a Master’s Degree in Education, School Administration, or Curriculum and Instruction.
  • Must possess or be eligiblefor a Postgraduate Professional Licensewith an endorsement in Administration and Supervision PreK-12.
  • Seven (7) yearsof progressively more responsible experience in teaching and administration or supervision, with a minimum of four (4) years administrative experience at the principal level.


Physical Requirements:

 

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normallydefined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls.

Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to: a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, or repetitive motions required.
