Summer Campaign Organizer

Alaska Environment is hiring summer campaign organizers to build support for increasing the adoption of renewable energy, protecting our oldest trees, and other critical environmental campaigns. Our summer organizing boot camp is an eight-week program, starting on June 3rd and ending on July 26th. During the eight weeks, organizers will learn and practice basic grassroot organizing, advocacy, and media skills while working to make a difference on environmental issues in Alaska.

Job Description and Key Responsibilities

Summer campaign organizers will work with Alaska Environment’s director and our national program team as well as with our stakeholders and key coalition allies to build momentum and expand support for some of our priority issues.

  • Build powerful coalitions: Reach out to and engage organizations, businesses and affected constituency groups to demonstrate support for our campaign goals.
  • Public outreach and education: Educate Alaskans on environmental issues, recruit them to take action, raise money, and build widespread support for our campaigns.
  • Earn traditional media and social media attention: Organize news conferences, reach out to reporters and build awareness on social media platforms for our campaigns.
  • Research and write articles: Catalog and analyze data relevant to an issue and our policy proposals to help influence public debate and earn attention for our cause. Publish your writing on our own websites and in local news outlets.

Qualifications

Entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply; the program will provide training on advocacy and organizing skills, as well as oversight and on-the-ground training by an experienced advocate. The ideal candidate is interested in long-term environmental organizing and advocacy positions and looking for exposure and experience to get started.

Ideal candidates will have:

  • A college degree
  • Passion for the environment and interest in using the power of grassroots organizing to win campaigns
  • Top-notch writing and public speaking skills
  • An eagerness to learn, take feedback, and improve skills
  • Willing and excited to engage and work with anyone from across the political spectrum who could be interested in our campaign goals
