Systems Administrator (JR-0000692)

Responsibilities

Innovative, multidisciplinary research. Complex diagnostics and novel detection methods. High-tech instrumentation and state-of-the-art laboratory services. All are components of the scientific community that is the Wadsworth Center of the New York State Department of Health.  The Systems Administrator will oversee administration of information technology systems and services, network architecture and support, storage system design/architecture/administration, system administration infrastructure support, platform virtualization, cloud support, procurement of infrastructure hardware and service, and cloud infrastructure support to support the ELC – Advanced Molecular Detection grant.  The incumbent will oversee staff engaged in supporting network administration, core storage and backup, system administration infrastructure, and manage infrastructure inventory and integrity.  This position will advance the Wadsworth Center goals in our cloud footprint and provide infrastructure maintenance and support.  The incumbent will be expected to lead after-hours/night/weekend incident response to remedy critical issues and promote continuity of infrastructure critical systems.  This position will be part of a dynamic team serving the Wadsworth Center’s mission in the New York State Department of Health’s efforts to protect and promote the health of New York’s citizens. Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Science, Information Technology, or a related field and four years of computer systems administration experience; OR an Associate’s degree in a related field and six years of such experience; OR eight years of such experience.  A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one year of experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Expertise with TCP/IP networking, common protocols, and firewalls. Experience or specific training relevant to information security. Experience deploying and maintaining cloud services hosted on GCP, AWS, or other platforms. Experience operating Linux in an enterprise setting. Proficiency with scripting, automation, or orchestration technologies such as PowerShell, Python, Jenkins, GitLab, or others. Experience with configuring, maintaining, and monitoring Windows Server systems in an enterprise environment. Demonstrated proficiency with Windows technologies including Active Directory, NTFS permissions, Print Services, VSS, and IIS. Experience with VMware, Citrix, Veeam, RDMS and/or enterprise storage systems.

 

Conditions of Employment

Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required. 

Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Travel, up to 10% of the time, will be required.


This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting will be available.
