Job Description:

This position will work up to 37.5 hours/week for up to 12 weeks. Thereafter, this position will work up to 20 hours/week. 

Responsibilities

The Hourly Laboratory Technician I will contribute to bacterial pathogen testing for foodborne outbreak response. The incumbent will assist with accessioning and testing of bacterial pathogens related to foodborne disease utilizing conventional and molecular methods. Additionally, the incumbent will assist with general laboratory responsibilities including specimen freezer inventory, ordering/receiving of supplies and laboratory organization.

Minimum Qualifications

Currently or previously enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in the biological sciences.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated knowledge of bacterial pathogens, with understanding of bacterial culture and molecular methods. Experience with Microsoft Office.

Conditions of Employment
Grant funded, hourly position expected to last through 08/30/2024. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.

Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting will not be available.

Exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position. Therefore, the incumbent in this position may be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment including but not limited to gloves, a lab coat, and face shield.
