Realty Specialist Resource Assistant

Realty Specialist ($750/week plus stipends and free health insurance)

Position Description:
This 8-month program is an on-the-job learning experience that provides exposure to the Forest Service and development and training opportunities within the Lands, Minerals, and Special Uses Program. This position requires a detail oriented and self-motivated individual. The internship will focus on Recreation Special Uses and allow for the development of knowledge, skills, and expertise to assist with the management of 285 Recreation Residence Special Use Permits. Individuals will work in the field with other specialists to conduct inspections of the recreation residences, roads, and utility corridors. They will then assist with database and file management to ensure the field surveys are recorded. Development opportunities may exist in other program areas if the individual expresses an interest.

This position is located roughly 3 hours north of the Twin Cities in Northern Minnesota. It is recommended that interested parties have a means of travel as public transportation is largely unavailable in this rural portion of the state. It is also of note that northern Minnesota can start getting snow in October/November. There are several outdoor winter activities that applicants may want to participate in like snow shoeing, cross country skiing, and ice fishing to name a few. Folks looking for some cold weather adventure may want to seriously consider this opportunity!

Duties:

Assist other Realty Specialists in completing field inspections of Recreation Residences, Resorts, Roads, and Utilities.

Participate in file management activities.

Learn the Special Uses permitting process and assist in providing quality customer service to members of the community.

Assist other departments like recreation, timber, silviculture on a variety of projects to ensure the candidate gains working knowledge of the Forest Service.

Qualifications:
We're looking for an individual that is detail oriented and capable of moving a variety of projects forward. They should be organized and efficient at project tracking. This position includes a large amount of office work with most of the field work being completed in the spring and fall. Writing and problem solving are also valuable skills in this line of work.

*This is a 1099 position. Persons paid on a 1099 basis are independent contractors and are self-employed.
