Business Development + Communications Intern

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking a remote, part-time Business Development + Communications Intern to work closely with the Parkes Philanthropy Operations + Business Development Associate. As this part-time opportunity is unpaid, it is most aligned with a student looking to earn college credit through their institution. The ideal start date for the role is mid-May, with flexibility on the specific date.

 

Reporting to the Operations + Business Development Associate, this is a great opportunity to gain experience in lead generation, outreach, and other business development activities to help support mission-driven organizations.

 

The responsibilities of this role are flexible based on the chosen candidate's unique interests, passions, and skills and Parkes Philanthropy's current needs. WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Lead generation: research aligned non-profits and businesses with the potential to become prospective client organizations
  • Outreach: conduct outreach to prospective partners, including drafting emails and tracking follow-ups
  • Collateral: create business development collateral as needed, including building pitch decks and presentations to be shared with prospective clients
  • Briefs: create internal briefing documents to prepare Parkes’ leadership for prospective client conversations
  • Flexible responsibilities based on the chosen candidate's unique interests, passions, and skills! What do you want to learn?

 

SCHEDULE

Our ideal candidate would be able to commit around 8-10 hours a week depending on their schedule. This will be a flexible and remote schedule.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Background and/or interest in consulting, social impact, philanthropy, fundraising, business development, and/or non-profit work.
  • Written communication: a great deal of time will be invested in building connections with external stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-up skills.
  • Technological and design prowess: skilled in navigating Google Suite and adaptable to new platforms.
  • Exceptional research and analytical skills.

 

WHO YOU ARE

Our ideal candidates have a passion for social change and professional aspirations in consulting or business development. You are very organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing projects in a remote startup setting. You have an interest in learning how non-profits garner support to sustain themselves and businesses can contribute to society through socially responsible programs.

 

  • Proactive: You notice the natural next steps that need to take place in order to move a project/goal forward and take the initiative to make it happen.
  • Detail-oriented: You understand that the smallest aspects of a project are vital in producing quality work. Proofreading, fact-checking, and sourcing work is second nature to you. You have experience and/or comfort in managing multiple tasks and work streams.
  • Adaptable: When change happens, you are flexible and can think on your feet. You like to learn new things and can learn them quickly.
  • A Social Impact Advocate: You have an interest in learning how non-profits garner support and sustain themselves and businesses can become more socially responsible. You are driven to find ways to make our world a better place.
  • A True Team player: You can work efficiently, digitally, and collaboratively in a remote setting with fellow colleagues to manufacture top-notch work. You are communicative, ensuring that all team members are informed of your progress and any challenges that may arise.
