SPANISH TEACHER .60 FTE (ANTICIPATED)

Job Description:

PVPA has an opportunity for a dynamic part time (.60 FTE) Spanish Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. We are looking for a reflective practitioner who collaborates effectively with colleagues and understands the varied needs of high school students. We are looking for a reflective practitioner who is interested in integrating the arts into the curriculum, teaching with a social justice lens, collaborating with students and colleagues, and has experience in implementing restorative practices in the classroom.  Our goal is to offer a core sequence of study that will help students develop confidence in using the language while laying the groundwork for fluency. We use an integrated curriculum that challenges students to blend creative and critical thinking into their work and provides options for project-based learning. At PVPA, all students have the opportunity to study at least one language in addition to English by the time they graduate from high school. We believe that:

 

  1. Students should be able to speak, read, write, and understand the world language they study.
  2. Language acquisition is a lifelong process.
  3. Effective world language programs integrate the study of language with the study of culture.
  4. Assessment of student learning is an integral component of effective world language instruction.

Under the direction of the Director of Curriculum & Instruction, you will be responsible for:

 

  1. Teaching three classes that include Spanish 1 and Spanish 2
  2. Use an anti-racist, anti-oppression framework to prepare curricula and instructional materials based on learning objectives.
  3. Plan curricula and prepare course expectations and materials.
  4. Supervise students during non-class time (ex:lunch) as required.
  5. Assess student work and provide timely feedback to students and parents via the PowerSchool online grading system.
  6. Apply PVPA standards based grading system to report on student course progress and achievement.
  7. Attend and participate in regular collaborative team meetings with faculty and school-wide professional development activities
  8. Attend and participate in meetings with students and/or parents as scheduled, including open house and parent-teacher conferences.
  9. Coordinate with special educators to address the diverse needs of all learners
  10. Other duties as required.

 

Qualifications;

The successful candidate will minimally hold a BA degree, be able to pass a background check (CORI/SORI & Fingerprinting) and be computer literate.  Preferred qualifications include:

 

  1. Two or more years of experience teaching Spanish in a public or private school
  2. Eligible for “Highly Qualified” teacher status (MA Certified or able to pass Communication & Literacy and Spanish MTEL exam within 1 year).
  3. Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) endorsement
  4. Native Speaker
  5. Knowledge of discipline curriculum standards
  6. Interest or experience in the arts

 

Other Information/Instructions:

 

Salary Range: Full time $42,000 to $66,705 annually. Additional $1,000 stipend for individuals who hold a DESE license in subject area and potential for bonus at the end of the fiscal year.

 

2024-2025 school year consists of 180 school days plus 5 professional development/curriculum work days and a thirty-five hour work week (for full-time) that includes, on average, three class blocks per day of collaborative/independent work time.
