Position:  Machine Learning Intern - Rising Sophomore

Position Overview:

We are looking for a select number of exceptional students who are currently enrolled in a top-tier undergraduate in Computer Science or related disciplines to consider joining an elite team of their peers at Temple Allen Industries in Rockville, MD. 

The ideal applicant is a rising college sophomore in an engineering or pre-engineering program who really wants to spend a summer diving into the work of training machine learning models for our EMMA Smart Automation aerospace sanding systems. Candidates may also have the chance to get their hands dirty helping assemble cool and cutting edge products for our aerospace customers. In addition to computer skills, they should have some mechanical experience, excellent communication skills, and a high degree of mechanical aptitude. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Annotate images for machine learning models that will be used in a real production environment.
  • Individuals with very high potential and strong work ethic can earn small project scopes for researching and implementing simple scripts used in the general machine learning process (collection, pre-processing/clustering, dataset generation, annotating, training, testing, and deployment) or for specific ML models being developed.
  • Learn about the daily operations documentation and work completion procedures by using and reviewing documents such as BoMs, Purchase Order Requests, Part Receival Forms, etc. 
  • When time allows, and as appropriate, support daily manufacturing operations or assist engineers in developing, building, or testing prototypes or new products, processes, or procedures.
  • This role is comprised of narrow scopes of work and is supported by a supervisor/ manager who can provide guidance on the importance of the work and support the intern in successfully and accurately annotating the images and learning about the real-world applications of machine learning and other engineering concepts.

Compensation: Employees in this role will be paid a fixed stipend of $675 per 40-hour work week

Time Commitment: Minimum two months
