Data Analytics Intern - Maintenance Services, Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources

Looking for a fun and exciting internship? The Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources department has a great opportunity for you! This internship in the Maintenance Services division will give you experience in the maintenance world through a variety of functions such as data analytics, data modeling and enterprise reporting, as it relates to Parks Maintenance. Experience in this fast-paced environment will help you to gain valuable experience working with Power BI, Smartsheet, Arc GIS and large-scale maintenance operations. The internship is perfect for students majoring in data analytics and serves as a great pathway to future employment. Our intern will develop skills that can be used at other organizations such as customer service, working in a team environment, problem solving, self-management and creative thinking. Interns will have lots of opportunities to build their resume during this experience!

Your internship will include impactful hands-on work within a department, networking, professional development, and building long lasting connections with other interns, mentors, and Sarasota County team members.

 

 

Department Responsibilities:

 

Data Analysis:

  • Extract and organize data from multiple enterprise systems.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of Power BI Enterprise Reports
  • Assist with building metrics, KPIs, and visualizations for various business operations
  • Develop and maintain data models, VBScripts, and other query-level code
  • Develop Smartsheet solutions and manage workspaces.
  • Collaborate with staff to gather and translate business requirements into data-driven reports
  • Support department staff and provide technical expertise related to various software systems.

 

GIS Data:

  • Gathering and auditing data attributes for various GIS projects

 

Other Administration Assignments:

  • Assist with the creation and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Project management for special projects, as needed
  • Collaborate with your department colleagues to make and influence real changes.

 

 

Internship Program Responsibilities:

  • A presentation to the County Administrator and other County Leadership staff is required at the close of the internship program.
  • Participate in all organized intern events and trainings.

About You

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 18 years old, or age 16 with parental consent.
  • High school diploma, or equivalent (if applicable).
  • Eligible to work in the United States – we love local, national, and international students!
  • Currently seeking a diploma or degree through an accredited secondary or post-secondary educational program, or within 12 months after graduation.
  • Include cover letter, resume and transcript (documenting 2.8 GPA or higher) with application for internship.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Candidates currently working toward a bachelor’s in a data related field.

 

About Everything Else

  • Program Dates: The 2024 internship program will begin on May 20, 2024 and end on August 9, 2024.  
  • Internship Hours: 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.; some departments vary. 
  • Pay Range: $13 per hour (high school student) up to $20 per hour (Grad/Masters student), based on your credit hours earned.
