Academic Editorial Intern

 

Bloomsbury Academic Publishing’s Introductory Reference, Bloomsbury Libraries Unlimited, and ABC-Clio database publishing imprints is seeking an editorial intern to begin in May. We are a publisher of academic books and databases located in Midtown/Herald Square with an affiliated office in Santa Barbara, CA. We commission in a broad range of subject areas across the humanities and social sciences. 

Our intern plays a key part of our day-to-day operations. As a Bloomsbury Academic editorial intern, you will work with the Editorial team on a variety of projects that reflect the diverse aspects of our academic publishing, including: 

  • Working with data systems like Biblio and Salesforce as needed
  • Perform testing on our digital product platforms
  • Manage submissions to the Cataloging-in-Publication and Library of Congress programs
  • Manage departmental shipping
  • Complete various administrative tasks
  • Complete course, academic, and picture research
  • Assist with the creation of book resources such as PowerPoints for instructors
  • Opportunities to take on other editorial projects may also arise

May 6, 2024 – August 31, 2024

Requirements

We are looking for a creative and motivated individual, who ideally has the following skills: 

  • High level of familiarity with Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Firm grasp of grammar and spelling, with a keen eye for detail
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently
  • Strong communication skills in a fast-paced professional environment

We require a commitment of 15-20 hours per week for the entire internship term. Scheduling is flexible, but work should occur during standard business hours: Monday through Friday, 9 AM – 5:00 PM EST.

This position pays $18.00 and candidates may wish to arrange for college credit for the placement to supplement.

Location

Bloomsbury has adopted a hybrid work policy comprising of two days in-office work and three days of remote work. Candidates residing in NY, NJ, or CT must be able to commute to Bloomsbury’s New York City office on a mutually agreed-upon schedule for in-office work.
