Staff Scientist

Stone Environmental, Inc. is seeking an Environmental Engineer, Geologist, Hydrogeologist, or Scientist with a strong educational and work background in environmental investigation and remediation to be a member of our Environmental Assessment and Remediation team. The successful applicant will provide technical support for a variety of projects at hazardous waste and brownfield sites. The position involves travel for field work throughout Vermont. Occasional travel for projects outside Vermont may be required.  This a full-time, temporary position with the opportunity to become permanent.

Job Responsibilities

  1. To be proficient at the role, the candidate will need to be able to perform a blend of field data collection, surveying, data management and analysis, equipment management, report writing, and technical research under the supervision of a senior technical lead and project manager. 

Required Skills/Experience

To be considered for this position, the following skills are required:

  • Legally able to work in the United States (proper documentation required);
  • Personal organization and attention to detail;
  • Troubleshooting skills, mechanical aptitude;
  • The ability to work as a member of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic setting;
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple tasks independently;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; 
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills; and
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy loads (more than 50 lbs) and work in all weather conditions

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Experience with geographic information systems (GIS) and/or AutoCAD;
  • Experience in field investigation methods including collection of samples of environmental media (soil, groundwater, air) for environmental investigations;
  • Geologic logging;
  • Experience analyzing data, implementing field investigation work plans, and preparing reports and figures to support and communicate compelling conclusions; and 
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER or the ability to be trained upon hire.

Experience Level and Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in geological or environmental sciences, environmental engineering, or closely related discipline. 
  • One to five years of relevant experience in one or more of the technical areas described above.
  • A Master of Science can be used in substitution for two years of experience.
