Job Summary:

The Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a Wellness Coordinator/Counselor. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.

The Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine (CCVM) provides veterinary professional and graduate programs leading to the DVM and MS degrees, and operates the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and Oregon Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory.

The mental health and wellness program at the CVM is intended to help students understand themselves better, create and maintain satisfying relationships, improve their academic performance, and make healthy and satisfying career and life choices. The Wellness Coordinator/Counselor is responsible for student wellness programs at the CVM. Hence, the primary purpose of this position's responsibilities at the College of Veterinary Medicine is to enhance student success by providing direct clinical and counseling services, including assessment, diagnosis and treatment of students. This position relates to the university mission by working with students to help them manage problems or skill deficits that may otherwise lead them to drop out of school or cause disruptions in other areas of the university. Key Responsibilities

60% – DIRECT CLINICAL SERVICE:
Provide triage, case management, and mental health counseling to CCVM veterinary and graduate students, and provides consultation and support to house officers, faculty, and staff. This includes recommending and managing referrals to other mental health services (e.g, CAPS, Student Health Services, community referrals).

30% – INDIRECT SERVICE:
Note-writing and management of e-mail and telephone correspondence; attend and participate in regular staff meetings, in-service training activities, and case conferences; maintain and promote the highest ethical and professional standards commensurate with training and licensure; pursue professional development in service of the responsibilities of the position and the profession.

5% – WELLNESS PROGRAMMING:
Develop, plan, and implement wellness programs for the CCVM and other efforts to promote student, staff, and faculty well-being and mental health. Consult with CAPS Mental Health Promotion team to follow best practices for mental health promotion. Oversee planning and implementation of program evaluation of wellness programming within the CCVM to ensure that programs and services are meeting intended goals.

5% – INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT:
Collaborate with instructors for courses such as Veterinary Skills (which includes communications for veterinarians, ethics, and professionalism), and Veterinary Practice Management by providing content and direction in topics such as communication with difficult or grieving clients, interview skills, non-verbal communication and stress prevention.

What You Will Need

• Master’s of Social Work, Master’s of Counseling, Master’s of Marriage and Family Therapy, Doctorate in Psychology, or similar degree from an accredited program.
• Licensure in the state of Oregon in respective discipline within 12 months of employment.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders for the effective delivery of services and programs.
• A demonstrable commitment and ability to promote and enhance diversity, and ongoing development of multicultural competence in working with diverse student body.
• Advanced knowledge of evidence-based counseling theory, brief therapy, psychological practices and methods.
• Ability to respond appropriately and in a timely manner to mental health emergencies.
• Ability to plan, implement, evaluate, and report activities in a timely manner.
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
• Ability to present in a variety of educational methods, including presentations, workshops, trainings, and individual behavior change sessions.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

What We Would Like You to Have

• Two years of professional counseling experience.
• Experience developing and delivering wellness programs and services.
• Experience providing programming, outreach, teaching, and/or counseling services to professional students.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule

The College’s work hours are Monday-Friday 8am-5pm with occasional after-hours meetings and/or weekend work. Developing a flexible and/or hybrid schedule may be possible to better meet the needs of the College and serve CCVM stakeholders.
