Rise Up Red Wing Summer Youth Engagement Fellow

AmeriCorps Summer Youth Engagement Fellows serve as caring adults who support, mentor, and build positive relationships with young people to make sure they are set up for success when school starts back up in the fall. In collaboration with school and community partners, Summer Youth Engagement Fellows provide one-on-one and small-group support in summer academic and enrichment programs across the state. 

Fellows receive training in student-mentor relationship-building skills and goal-setting techniques throughout the year and are encouraged to explore their own goals and have the opportunity to be paired with a Life Coach.  20% of AmeriCorps Promise Fellows return for a second year of service.

Summer Youth Engagement Fellows will earn:

Summer Youth Engagement Fellows will support young people by:

  • Collaborating to implement enjoyable, inclusive, and suitable summer learning and enrichment activities for youth.
  • Boosting youth participation in programming and educational activities. Offering encouragement and affirmation to participating youth.
  • Cultivating positive and supportive relationships with youth involved in programming. Assisting sites in addressing the social, emotional, and mental health needs of youth participating in the program.


 

To ensure young people receive the support they deserve, Summer Youth Engagement Fellows must commit to:

  • Engage actively in onboarding training and continuous professional development.
  • Maintain regular and effective communication with program staff and site personnel.
  • Input data into online systems promptly and accurately.
  • Exhibit consistent, punctual attendance and adhere to scheduled hours.
  • Dedicate to serving the full-service term, fulfilling the total commitment of hours within the specified term.
  • Attend all mandatory Alliance-sponsored training sessions, meetings, and coaching sessions; travel as required.

Minimum requirements:

  • 18 years or older
  • High School graduate with a Diploma or GED
  • A U.S. Citizen, U.S. National or Lawful Permanent Resident of the United States
  • Not have served more than the allowed number of AmeriCorps terms before this term—eligibility based on AmeriCorps term limitations.
  • Able to pass a complete National Service Criminal Service History Background check (including National Sex Offender Registry, State of service and State of residence, and FBI checks) - eligibility requirements listed here
