An internship with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is a form of experiential learning that integrates knowledge and theory learned in the classroom with practical application and skills development in a professional setting. 

  

  • The Law Clerk will be part of the Society's Legal and Risk Management Team, reporting to the Senior Corporate Counsel while also working directly with the General Counsel, Corporate Counsel and Estates and Trusts Paralegal. The Law Clerk will work on a variety of projects, including conducting legal research, drafting legal documents, reviewing/redlining contracts, writing internal memos, preparing corporate policies and contract templates, reviewing contracts, and assisting various departments on different legal issues. The Law Clerk will attend meetings as appropriate to observe the role of in-house counsel and gain an understanding of how to provide legal advice and guidance to a large-scale organization.


The candidate must be a current 2L or 3L student at an accredited law school who is available to work 15-24 hours per week during the hours of 9am - 5pm M-F in their respective time zone.

 

This is a fully remote paid internship available for Summer 2024. The hourly rate is $20.

 

What You Will Do:

 

Legal research 25%

Drafting Legal Documents 15%

  • Draft Internal and external policies
  • Prepare internal memos
  • Draft legal correspondence

 

Work as in-house counsel law clerk: 60%

  • Review/Redline contracts
  • Communicate directly with Society staff and third parties, as appropriate
  • Assist with various legal issues as they arise
  • Monitor and assist with litigation and policy matters nationwide
  • Apply law school training to real-world scenarios
  • Assist with trusts and estates matters as appropriate

 

What You Will Bring:

  • Current 2L or 3L student at an accredited law school
  • Available 15 hours per week, for 12 weeks (M-F) during the hours of 9a-5pm in your time zone
  • Intermediate/advanced computer skills including internet searches, online databases, and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to multi-task, communicate updates and challenges, and manage time effectively.
  • Naturally curious, ambitious, discerning with strong attention to detail, and an ability to use available resources to find a solution.
  • Independent, self-starter who operates autonomously while being a collaborative team player.
  • High integrity, strong work ethic and demonstrable ambition to learn
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software for e-mail, document and spreadsheet creation/management -- specific guidance will be provided.
  • Familiarity with and access to Lexis, Westlaw and/or Bloomberg Search Engines
  • Access to reliable internet, including a wired connection and webcam

The hourly rate for internships is $15, except when noted differently above OR where local minimum wage exceeds that figure, in which case the hourly rate will be the higher of the two. If you are unable to be paid for this internship due to outside funding or other directives from your educational institution – please let your hiring manager know AFTER you have been identified as the final candidate.
