Seasonal Lifeguard

Summary

 

This is a part-time, seasonal position that is running from 6/01/24 – 8/16/24. The primary function of the lifeguard is to protect the safety of swimmers in and around your area: first by preventing accidents and second by responding to an emergency quickly and efficiently to minimize the danger of those involved.

 

 

Essential Job Functions:

 

  • Arrive properly dressed 10 minutes prior to the scheduled time of duty. 
  • Learn all emergency procedures and familiarize yourself with the first aid/rescue equipment. 
  • Check the pool area for hazards when you arrive in the pool.  
  • Enforce all posted rules while explaining the reasons why and the danger involved.  
  • Make requests and issues in a courteous and tactful manner.  
  • Keep the swimming area clean and ready for inspection.  
  • Scan your area at all times.  
  • Check chemicals/temperature as directed by your Aquatic Director.  
  • Know how to use all lifeguarding and first aid equipment, keep it ready, and in good repair. 
  • Make sure all doors are securely locked when a lifeguard is not on duty. NEVER LEAVE THE POOL UNATTENDED.  
  • You are responsible for finding your own substitute. See supervisor for clarification.  
  • No reading materials, cell phones or any other item that could distract you from your guarding responsibility will be permitted on the pool deck.  
  • Attendance at all staff meetings is mandatory.

 

 

Requirements:

 

  • Hold current certifications in Lifeguarding, Standard First Aid, and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer. 
  • Have skills in accident prevention, decision-making, and rescue in order to ensure a safe environment for members.  
  • Develop and foster a family atmosphere by participating with members in an enthusiastic courteous and friendly manner.  
  • Excellent oral communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills to work with various college, membership, and rental constituencies. 
  • The ability to work a flexible and irregular schedule. 
  • Works well as a team member or independently. 
  • Ability to properly test the pool chemicals.

 

 

Effect and Result:

 

The effectiveness of the incumbent’s fulfillment of the responsibilities of this position shall be measured by:  

  • The prevention of accidents in and around the water through proper supervision and enforcement of all safety rules.  
  • The proper maintenance of the pool area and water. 
  • A family friendly pool through professionalism, courtesy, and enthusiasm. 
  • Abiding by the Regis College Professional Standards of Behavior, the Lifeguard Manual, and any other designated rules and regulations.

 

 

Working Demands/Physical Conditions:

 

  • This position requires the ability to lift in excess of 40 lbs.  
  • This position will possibly come in contact with hazardous materials and chemicals such as chlorine.
