Job Description:

Responsibilities

The Program Research Specialist II will work in the Public Health Information Group (PHIG) to contribute to the implementation of opioid surveillance activities related to the Healing Communities Study (HCS). The incumbent will work as part of a team including subject matter experts to obtain and analyze data from a variety of data sources including but not limited to death data, hospital discharge data, emergency department data. The incumbent will contribute to the development and implementation of the epidemiology, surveillance, and evaluation activities related to opioid prescription, prevention of, misuse and abuse, overdose response, and treatment of opioid use disorders for the HCS.

Specific duties will include: performing analyses of opioid-related data on emergency department visits, hospitalizations, mortality, and emergency medical services; generation and validation of opioid data and indicators for HCS; and preparing and reviewing data outputs, reports, and templates. performing analyses to assess and evaluate changes in measure results over time and across implementation sites and contributing to the development of reports and publications; communicate with internal NYSDOH partners and the Columbia University research team and contributing to ad hoc data requests and technical assistance from internal and external partners.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in public health, epidemiology, statistics/biostatistics or a related field and two years of research experience in the collection and analysis of data; OR an Associate’s degree in a related field and four years of such experience; OR six years of such experience. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one year of such experience.


Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Public Health or related field and one year of experience in public health research, surveillance, or evaluation. Proficiency in data analysis, database and statistical software, interpretation, and dissemination of data for varied audiences. Experience with analyzing large public health data. Intermediate or advanced proficiency using SAS including proficient use of SAS BASE, SQL, GRAPH, STAT, ODS, MACRO.

Conditions of Employment

Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.

Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.


This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting will be available.
