Research Assistant

Job Summary

Conducts research, content development and/or editorial functions in the fields of modern and contemporary art for the Deputy Director of the Getty Research Institute. May assist Deputy Director through library research, transcription, note taking, cataloging and photocopying. May compile, evaluate and interpret results. May contribute to conceptual project development and coordinate projects or events from inception through completion. May write research reports or contribute to academic publications. Assists in preparing public presentations, which requires strong computer skills.

Major Job Responsibilities

  • Provides bibliographic assistance, acquisitions research, editing, and organizational assistance related to upcoming exhibitions and programs
  • Assists in development and coordination of programmatic events

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree; Master's degree, Ph.D. or Ph.D. candidate in art history preferred
  • 0-2 years research experience (education may be considered); 2-3 years research experience preferred
  • Strong library skills, computing and word processing ability, the ability to handle many projects and the disposition to interact with many colleagues from a broad range of disciplines
  • Proficiency in Spanish, French, or German a plus

  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a timely manner
  • Ability to build relationships, work in partnership and work on teams
  • Ability to set and meet deadlines for oneself
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe software suites preferred
