Position Summary
The Academic Advising and Retention Coordinator for the Portland-Metro Campus provides academic advising and faculty support to all Portland-Metro campus programs. The coordinator collaborates on retention initiatives to ensure student success and persistence, providing educational guidance from the first term through graduation.

Responsible for providing students with educational guidance and assistance through graduation and serves as a key advocate for student academic concerns to senior administration. Requires the application of both professional knowledge and judgment, as well as experience, to apply the principles, techniques, and skills characteristic of student advising and retention services.
 

Assist the Advising and Retention Director & Assistant Director with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of Oregon Tech initiatives; eliminate equity gaps and decrease time to degree; promote access, academic achievement, and graduation of undergraduate students.
 

Effective and respectful communication and working with people of varying beliefs, behaviors, orientations, identities, and cultural backgrounds are key components of the position along with a strong commitment to the principles of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, & Access.
 

Qualification Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience advising students within a college, performing analytics and promoting retention strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and proactively develop initiatives with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of audiences through various mediums.
  • Experience counseling, advising, and/or mentoring college students with declared majors.
  • Experience with student success initiatives.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficiency in data analytics with ability to create complex spreadsheets and develop initiatives based on the data.
