HR Generalist

The HR Generalist is responsible for providing support to managers and employees regarding HR policies and practices, researching and/or investigating concerns, and making recommendations that promote positive employee relations. The main area of responsibility is to serve as a resource to management and employees in solving day-to-day workplace matters.

 

About Isle Royale National Park:​

Visitors' accommodations are accessible only by boat or seaplane. Rock Harbor Lodge has guest rooms with private baths, housekeeping cottages, and services include a dining room, snack bar, gift shop, dockside store, marina, rental motorboats, kayaks and canoes, guided fishing and sightseeing tours. Pristine, remote Isle Royale National Park - located in the northwest of Lake Superior and part of the U.S. state of Michigan.

Season Dates: End of May - End of September

Housing: Employee housing is available

 

Employee Relations and Workforce Engagement:
•    Resolve general employee relations issues; provide direction and recommendations to all levels of leadership, ensure fairness and consistency of policy and practice.
•    Provide consultation to managers on policies and compliance regarding employment-related matters.
•    Investigate and resolve employee complaints, issues, and concerns regarding employment practices originating from the employee hotline and other sources. Prepare relevant documentation using investigation guidelines.
•    Design and implement employee engagement strategies that enhance morale, promote inclusivity, and support a collaborative workplace.
•    Ensure the completion of Onboarding, File Compliance, and Training Programs (Customer Service Basics, Sexual Harassment, ServSafe)
•    Prepare for and conduct employee orientations. Ensure all employees receive an orientation and sign off on all required documents/policies.
•    Track training for compliance purposes
•    Answer employee questions pertaining to systems such as MyPay, Kronos, MyWorkLife, etc. Assist with troubleshooting when necessary. 
•    I-9 completion and compliance
•    Lead the on-boarding of international hires on J1 visas and maintain compliance of documentation, process and I9 processing 
•    Coordinate all leave of absence cases to include general administration, comprehensive case management, and compliance with all related policies and employment laws. 

 

Housing Coordination:
•    Ensure rooms are move-in ready and photo documented prior to arrivals and properly cleaned and inspected upon exit.
•    Manage the allocation of housing assignments, ensuring efficient use of available space.
•    Coordinate move-in and move-out processes, providing assistance and support to residents or guests.
•    Manage monthly room inspections checking for safety, health risks and cleanliness.
•    Address housing-related concerns, facilitate conflict resolution, and liaise with maintenance staff for timely issue resolution.
•    Manage employee guest visitor requests and approvals.
•    Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of employee housing facilities by partnering with the maintenance department and management.  
•    Prepare employee housing for winter shut down and reopening in the spring. 


Activity Planning:
•    Develop and implement a diverse range of engaging activities and events for residents.
•    Collaborate with community members to gather feedback and preferences for activity planning.


Communication and Promotion:
•    Maintain clear and open communication with residents regarding housing information, policies, upcoming activities, and community updates.
•    Utilize various communication channels to promote activities and events, fostering a sense of community engagement.
•    Work closely with other departments, such as the employee dining room, and security, to ensure seamless coordination of events.


Documentation and Reporting:
•    Maintain accurate records of housing assignments, activity plans, attendance, and resident feedback.
•    Generate regular reports on housing occupancy, activity participation, and budget utilization.
