About the Emerging Markets Investors Alliance (“the Alliance”): The Alliance is a 501(c)(3), not-for-profit organization based in New York City that enables institutional investors to support good governance, promote sustainable development, and improve investment performance in emerging market governments and companies. The Alliance addresses issues including government budget transparency; energy and mining sector transparency; corporate governance; and environmental issues. To advance its mission, the Alliance (a) organizes presentations by non-profits and policy makers to educate emerging market investors on governance issues; (b) draws on the same expertise to produce policy papers on key governance issues to empower investors to become effective advocates; and (c) facilitates dialogue on improving governance between investors and their corporate and sovereign investments. 

About the Internship Opportunity: The Alliance is seeking a highly motivated intern to join our efforts to promote sustainable investing in emerging markets on a part-time basis this fall. The intern will handle tasks delegated by both junior and senior staff, providing support on a wide variety of tasks related to organizing educational events for investors, developing our web presence, maintaining communications with our membership base, and producing research. S/he will join an energetic start-up group that works collaboratively with high-capacity volunteers and partners from the world’s leading financial and civil society institutions. 

Key Intern Functions:

The Intern will conduct some of the following tasks. This is not a comprehensive list.

●     For educational and advocacy related activities, support agenda development, event-related publicity, and event related research.

●     Help maintain Salesforce database and assist with stakeholder recruitment, onboarding, and communications.

●     Write summaries and transcripts of conference calls and meetings.

●     Research and write reports on topics related to sustainability and good governance in emerging markets.

●     Collect and collate investment-related data and information. Prepare charts, graphs and other presentation materials.

●     Assist staff in fundraising, business development, organizational development, and other activities.

Intern Qualifications:

The successful Intern will have many of the following characteristics:

●     Strong performance in an undergraduate or graduate-degree program. Academic focus in business, finance, economics, public policy, international development or related disciplines.

●     Responsible, organized and attentive to details. Willing to work flexibly on a variety of shifting priorities.

●     Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Comfortable working in a small group that values strong performance and close collaboration.

●     Familiarity with Excel, MS Word, and accessing databases.

●     Interest in international development topics involving transparency, anti-corruption, the environment, corporate governance and ESG Integration.

Timeframe, Location, and Compensation:

The internship is unpaid, will begin at a mutually convenient date, and is flexible in length. The internship could be constructed as a part-time position (1-2 days/week) during the school year or as a full-time position over the summer or for recent graduates. The intern would preferably be based in New York City but the internship could also be structured to work remotely.
