Clinical Research Intern

The Depression Clinical and Research Program at Massachusetts General Hospital is seeking two clinical research interns to contribute to two projects examining the effectiveness of ketamine and esketamine treatments in reducing depressive symptoms and suicidal ideation among patients hospitalized for suicidal thoughts and behaviors and among outpatients at the MGH ketamine clinic. The students will have the opportunity to work closely with Harvard Medical School faculty.

Students will gain comprehensive, hands-on experience in the design and implementation of clinical research studies, including methodologies for clinical data collection and data entry. They will develop proficiency in utilizing platforms frequently employed in psychological and medical research, such as RedCap, and will contribute actively to various aspects of study operations, including scheduling, participant engagement, and administrative tasks, such as IRB communications and amendments. Under the mentorship of Clinical Research Coordinators and Principal Investigators, students will gain a deeper understanding of the organizational and logistical elements involved in successfully running a research study. Additionally, they will attend weekly team meetings and participate in DCRP case discussions, where clinical cases are reviewed by faculty and trainees, providing a rich perspective on the integration of research and clinical practice.

Strong communication and organizational skills, problem-solving and initiative are essential. Students interested in pursuing careers in clinical psychology or medicine are encouraged to apply. The DCRP values diversity among our members, and we encourage applications from all qualified individuals including all underrepresented minority backgrounds. In their cover letter, applicants are encouraged to describe their commitment to diversity and inclusivity and how they would bring this to working in research.

A one-year commitment is required, beginning in January 2025. The time commitment entails 15-20 hours per week during the summer months and 10 hours per week during the academic year. The position follows a hybrid model, combining remote work with in-person responsibilities at our center located close to the Government Center in Boston. Please note that this internship requires the student to obtain course credit. References will be requested as part of the interview process.

This position will provide invaluable experience for anyone interested in pursuing graduate study in the fields of psychology, public health, or medicine.
