RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Perioperative Nurse in the U.S. Navy, you will provide essential care in the surgical setting, assisting in life-saving procedures and supporting a wide range of medical missions. Your responsibilities could include:
- Perioperative Care: Deliver comprehensive care in multi-service operating rooms, assisting with complex and extensive surgical procedures.
- Surgical Assistance: Manage specialized supplies and equipment, assist surgeons and other medical professionals, and provide care during and after surgeries.
- Collaborative Care: Work with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare teams to develop and implement care plans for surgical patients.
- Patient and Staff Education: Educate patients and staff on pre- and post-operative care, procedures, and recovery expectations.
- Global Service: Provide care at Navy medical facilities, aboard hospital ships like USNS Comfort and USNS Mercy, and during humanitarian missions worldwide.
- Advanced Technology: Use cutting-edge medical equipment and technology to enhance patient care and improve surgical outcomes.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of perioperative nursing experience
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited program (ACEN or CCNE)
- Licensure: Active, unrestricted RN license (new grads must obtain licensure within one year)
- Citizenship: U.S. Citizen
- Physical Fitness: Must meet Navy physical fitness and medical exam standards
- Commitment: Willingness to serve a minimum of 3 years on Active Duty
- This credential may have multiple options for a service member to meet eligibility requirements, based on minimum degree requirements.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
As a Perioperative Nurse in the U.S. Navy, you’ll have the chance to serve in over 250 medical facilities worldwide, including highly renowned Naval hospitals in Bethesda, MD, Portsmouth, VA, and San Diego, CA. Additionally, you may serve aboard hospital ships such as the USNS Comfort and USNS Mercy, or with specialized Navy units supporting operations across the globe, from disaster relief to combat zones.
