
Steven and Stephanie Kasok Family Internship In Museum Studies
THE SMITHSONIAN AMERICAN ART MUSEUM (SAAM) IS CURRENTLY ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE STEVEN AND STEPHANIE KASOK FAMILY INTERNSHIP IN MUSEUM STUDIES/MUSEUM OPERATIONS
A FULL-TIME INTERNSHIP AWARD WITH A $20,000 STIPEND, Participation SEPTEMBER 2025 TO APRIL 2026
THE STEVEN AND STEPHANIE KASOK FAMILY INTERNSHIP FOR MUSEUM STUDIES will expand and enrich the community of museum professionals by providing an opportunity for students from all cultural, economic, and academic backgrounds, who aspire to careers in the museum field. This award provides a full-time internship to one highly qualified individual, with support, mentoring and training required for professional development. The selected person will participate in assignments related to the person’s academic background, experience, and career interests (and according to project availability), September 2025 to April 2026.
THE STEVEN AND STEPHANIE KASOK FAMILY INTERNSHIP FOR MUSEUM STUDIES is part of the museum’s two semester Advanced Level Program, the oldest and most structured museum operations program in the Smithsonian Institution. An Alumni Association of former SAAM interns, now successful museum professionals in positions around the world, comprise an active networking group that spans 57 years.
THE SMITHSONIAN AMERICAN ART MUSEUM’S ADVANCED LEVEL PROGRAM IN MUSEUM OPERATIONS In addition to the full-time position described above, part-time internships, with stipends, are also available to qualified individuals. These 20-hour positions allow students to have employment or engage in an academic program while participating in this two-semester internship. Hands-on assignments are combined with weekly academic workshops and seminars, presented by museum field professionals, providing an in-depth overview of museum operations for program participants
Internship positions are available in most areas within SAAM. Applicants should have some previous museum or art institution experience; may be graduate students, college seniors, individuals with a four-year college degree or international students. (Enrollment in an academic program is not required).
Application materials for the Advanced Level Program (and the Kasok Internship Award) consists of a resume, Statement of Purpose, official or unofficial transcripts above high school and two recommendations (academic and/or professional). Students requesting consideration for the full-time Steven and Stephanie Kasok Family Internship in Museum Studies (with the $20.000 stipend) should add a Statement of Financial Need to the required materials listed above. Applicants for part-time internships will automatically be considered for a stipend award from the museum’s named endowments (an additional statement is not required).
